Science: Predict, Observe, Explain
Compare a prediction with a model and explain what the evidence means.
What actually happened
Step 3 of 6
The idea a lot of people have
a heavier object falls faster than a lighter one
What the evidence shows
Your rule says the heavier one should land clearly first. In this drop they land together — so the rule cannot be the whole story.
The model that fits
Gravity does pull harder on the heavier object, but the heavier object is also harder to accelerate, by exactly the same factor. The two effects cancel, so both objects speed up at the same rate. What separates falling objects in everyday life is air resistance, not weight.
Before I give you the physics: which part of your prediction just broke?
What it helps with
• State a prediction
• Observe carefully
• Explain with evidence
